Ed is a PhD (Education) candidate at the School of Education (SoE), University of Cape Town, under Arlene Archer and Catherine Kell. His research investigates the way high school teachers integrate digital media as teaching materials within high school lessons. He has been a part-time teacher educator at the SoE since 2014, teaching ‘Digital Literacy for English Teachers’ and ‘Multimodality in Contexts’ to English and History pre-service teachers. He has a background in multimodal social semiotics, literacy studies, professional development/education, writing consulting, musicology & music technology, English literature, cultural & film studies and technology in language learning. While he is still to develop a repertoire of academic publications, he regularly writes popular articles, sometimes applying multimodality on every day phenomena. He is a reasonably established wine writer also.
